Writing Workshop for Young People

Free Memoir Writing Workshop Saturday
From 2-4 p.m.; no registration is necessary
Steve Edwards will facilitate a writing workshop at Sheldon Museum of Art on memoir titled “Teaching the Stone to Talk: Memoir Writing in Sheldon’s Sculpture Garden.”
This workshop is for students in grades 9 through 12 and adults.
In preparing for the workshop, organizers ask those who might attend to consider: “Where does memory live? Only in the mind? Or does memory also exist outside of us, in the objects that give shape to our senses?” Poet Charles Simic writes, “The stone is a mirror which works poorly. Nothing in it but dimness. Its dimness or your dimness, who’s to say?” In this session, we will look at sculptures in the Sheldon sculpture garden as though we are looking into mirrors — and we will write about and discuss the memories and stories we see reflected there.”
This free workshop is generously funded in part by the Nebraska Humanities Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment. Views expressed in this program do not necessarily reflect the views of these organizations.
